Open Studio Hartford & Set to Celebrate!

Wild Moon had another opportunity to whet the appetites of several art aficionados this weekend at Hartford’s annual Open Studio Hartford, in which several talented artists from all around Hartford displayed their exceptional work.  Hartford Flavor was among them, debuting our official bottle design, as well as a sneak peak into our photo shoots that will soon be released to the public.  A few bottles even snuck their way into “Set to Celebrate,” for which our own very talented Lelaneia Dubay designed a table setting in the essence of Diana, our Goddess, on which a few Wild Moon bottles artfully stood in full view.  We hope you enjoy this sneak peak of what Wild Moon has coming!

Wild Moon, Hartford’s New Product Line Of Flavored Liqueurs

By IRIS VAN RYNBACH

Dining and Drinking

Lelaneia and Tom Dubay knew they were on to something when their Christmas gift one year proved so popular that recipients begged for more. Lelaneia had made it herself. “I have been making elixirs using herbs from my garden for years. The idea for our first product line, Wild Moon, came to us at our Christmas party in 2013. We made them for friends and family and everyone loved them.” Mind you, both halves of this West End of Hartford couple know something about food, creativity, botanicals, and business, so in many ways, it’s a natural fit.

“I have an art school background and I have been a landscape designer for 20 years. I love herbs, cooking, and making liquors,” says Lelaneia, who has taken the title of creatrix of Wild Moon at the Hartford Flavor Company while Tom, her husband and the CEO of Hartford Flavor, has an MBA and experience starting new operations for Fortune 500 companies. However, Wild Moon, their new product line of flavored liqueurs, is something very nearly unique. Lelaneia takes special care in sourcing ingredients: “the cranberry flavor is seasonal, while lavender and our botanicals will be offered in the spring, other flavors are, cucumber, chai spice, and birch. Each one captures the essence of the plant. I source all our products locally if possible, and our alcohol base is gluten-free and GMO free. The line will be 40 percent proof vodka based alcohol.”

Tom says: “Our line of handmade botanical Wild Moon will be made in our facility at 30 Arbor St. We want to be part of the Hartford renaissance, and celebrate our city.”

To that end, their mission is to provide a locally made product for mixologists, retailers, and consumers that enhances the cocktail culture. Local restaurants are taking notice. Hartford’s Firebox Restaurant is interested in serving the Wild Moon line in its cocktails, and the restaurant’s bakery is talking about using Lavender in its ice cream.

Initially, the Hartford Flavor Company will self-distribute its product to liquor stores, banquet facilities, and restaurants, and the Dubays hope the line will take off with sales in Hartford, New Haven, Fairfield County, and Massachusetts.

The most rewarding part? (Besides drinking it, of course.) Lelaneia: “I completely love the smiles on people’s faces when they try out our liqueurs at tastings; we’ve heard some call it magic in a bottle!”

Worth drinking to, I’d say, cheers Hartford.

The Tasting Room that will Stimulate the Senses

From the very first days of ideating about Hartford Flavor’s future, we were convinced that a tasting room would be welcomed by consumers, mixologists, and retailers alike.

The space will include a unique bar, décor, and comfortable furniture.  It will be a place to have a taste of both currently-offered and/or not-yet-released flavors.  The tasting room will also accommodate private events and fundraisers.  Your contribution will help build the bar, which we plan on making out of old Connecticut barn boards that will bring a local flair to the space.  We plan on comfortably seating upwards of 20 people at the bar and at other chairs and tables in the space.  The concept of the tasting room will be “modern apothecary”…  We are taking an old idea and bringing it into the present.

When you come in for a product line tasting and a production facility tour, you’ll get to meet other open-minded drinkers and learn about our process and philosophies. Our team is excited to be able to host you and we hope the space seems like home.  Check out the cool rewards you will receive as a backer of this campaign!!  Thanks for your consideration – we look forward to the day when you can come into the tasting room, raise a glass, and say “CHEERS!”

Our Logo, Goddess Diana

Diana is the Roman goddess of the Wild, woodlands, wild animals, the hunt, the Moon, and children and childbirth. She is Queen of Light and the Open Sky as well as Queen of the (good) Witches and Healing andWise Women. She symbolizes the independent female with a free spirit, in touch with her wild side. She is the Lady of Wild Things.  Choosing the Goddess Diana and her deer companion represented all that we wanted to do with our new company, The Hartford Flavor Company.

We want to be in touch with that independent spirit and through Wild Moon provide something unique that is available at your favorite establishments and/or for you to enjoy in your home as well.  We love the current cocktail culture and believe our line of botanical, all-natural, pure flavored infused liqueurs can help bring this movement to even greater heights.

The deer by her side represents Diana’s harmony with all of the wild beasts. For us, it represents young Hartford, as the hert or deer is one of Hartford’s city symbols. We want to be a part of Hartford’s ongoing resurgence and give back to the community in many ways. To honor Diana and her love of the woodlands, we want to help the green movement within Hartford and Connecticut.

The Oak Grove is the most sacred space for Diana.  Another of Harford’s famous symbols is the historic Charter Oak tree, which was used to hide Connecticut’s separatist charter from mother England in 1687.  Again, this independent spirit and the similar symbolism spoke to us.

At the turn of the 20th century, Hartford was called the Athens of America, as there was so much going on culturally and otherwise. This is occurring once again and Diana, with her bow drawn shooting for the sky, will help propel us forward.

Hartford’s Flavorful Weekend

On June 21st, HFC had the privilege of debuting its logo and preliminary label designs at Scarborough Farm in Hartford to a few local, discerning liqueur connoisseurs.  It was a fabulous evening, made possible by our elegantly appointed surroundings and delectable organic and gluten-free hors d’oeuvres.  John Tsipouras, Connecticut Mixologist of the Year, crafted a specialized menu featuring our four launch flavors that unanimously won over guests.  Our primary shareholders, without whom HFC would not be possible, were honored for their contributions.  Soiree-goers enjoyed the rest of the evening sipping on delicious cocktails amongst the manicured gardens and whimsical fireflies.
